Toyohiko Kagawa, a Japanese Christian paciÞst,
Christian reformer, and labour activist. Kagawa
wrote, spoke, and worked at length on ways to employ Christian
principles in the ordering of society and in cooperatives. His vocation to
help the poor led him to live among them. He communicated this theme
and lived it so eloquently, ÒNot everything in manÕs life is summed up in
the question of food.Ó

Back-Story and Other Thoughts By Peter
Annie Johnson Flint was born in 1866. Her mother died in 1869. At the
same time AnnieÕs father had an incurable disease, and he died while
Annie was still very young.
Before AnnieÕs father died
he sent Annie, and her
sister, to live with a widow.
It was not a happy time.
Later, Annie and her sister
were adopted by Mr &
Mrs Flint who loved the
girls and provided them
with a good but modest
home. But the Flints were
very frail and soon passed
away. It was around this
time that Annie was told
by her Doctor that
